Walking-up is a popular type of hunting for groups of 3-6 hunters. With a couple of friends and pointing dogs, it’s a good fun to hunt the suitable canal shores, bushy areas, reeds and forest patches, with nice results. At some of the hunting areas it’s possible to shoot partridges, ducks during walking-up shooting, so this type of hunting becomes even more fun and the preys even more varied.
Pheasant shooting can be organized for groups of 6-10 hunters with a rich daily bag. The hare driven hunt is spectacular way of hunting and the stands are organized in U shape. During the hare driven hunt can be shot foxes as well. The best time to hunt small game is in the winter. The frozen ground makes the hares to jump and run faster, creating the possibility of a spectacular shot. Indeed, the most successful and beautiful hunts take place in authentic winter landscapes with snow and frost. For the both species in driven hunt are involved a big number of drivers, beaters, dogmen and some pointing dogs.

Pheasant and Hare in Romania

In the past centuries, many pheasant species have been settled or bred in Europe including the Romanian territories. Originally to Asia, these species have been mixing with each other, and this way was created a hybrid called “the hunting pheasant”. The pheasant prefer loose sandy soils, since they like to take a bath in the dust, they like to stay under 400 m above sea level, and they prefer flat and slightly sloping landscapes. Their optimal living environment is the varied, woody-bushy landscape, where they can find hiding places easily.
The brown-hare is a common species that can be found throughout Romania. The highest densities are found in plains and low hills. The biotope is the mixture of agriculturally cultivated plains with various types of crops alternating with forests and bushes.
