Every year in Romania, the hunting season begins with the roe buck hunting. The roe deer hunting in Romania is strictly regulated and organized only within officially approved hunting seasons, based on annual quotas. The hunting season start on 1st of May and ends on 15th of October for bucks and 1st of September -15th of February for does and fauns.

The best time is in May when most of our guests choose this period for the high chances of harvesting the desired trophies. Another excellent period is in the rut season. This is a really special period, which lasts from 1st to the middle of August.

The method of hunting is stalking, calling with whistle/butolo, and in rare cases the high-seats.

In rut the buck is called with a whistle/butolo, creating a special atmosphere during the hunting. The hunter imitates the calling or warning sounds of the roe doe/faun, and this might even lure the otherwise very careful old bucks close to the rifle. Often it is not the animal that you expect, which reacts to the call, and sometimes it happens, that bucks, which have been hiding during the whole season are lured out and harvested.

The roe buck hunt can be combined with other game species such as red deer, wild boar, roe deer, brown bear and in some areas with chamois.
The level of difficulty is from easy to moderate. In some places, hunting can also be organized for people with a lower physical condition.

The shooting distances are between 50 and 200 m.

Recommended equipment: boots, rubber boots, binocular, headlight waterproof clothing, headlamp, gloves, shooting sticks.

Roe Deer in Romania

The roe deer is a widespread species in Romania. The main living habitat is the rare tree stock rich in bushes and undergrowth, segmented by fields and meadows. In the late spring and early summer time it likes to rest on farmlands and on the high grain fields. Basically you can find this popular game species in coniferous forest and even on the top of the mountains. The trophy of the roe buck is the well-developed set of antlers. Most of the trophies are between 300 and 500 g net weight. There are areas where can be harvested large trophy bucks with the weight over 550 g. After the hunt the trophy is cleaned, blanked and put in dry & cool place. After 24 hours will be measured and the weight of the skull with the antlers will be take in consideration for payment. The trophy is measured according to the CIC methodology. The national record scores 217.8 CIC and was harvested in 2017 in Bihor county.
