Quail hunting is a beautiful hunting experience for hunters in Romania. Quail and collared dove hunting in Romania is strictly regulated and organized only within officially approved hunting seasons, based on daily bag limits for the quails and on the annual quota for the collared doves.
For the quails the hunting season start on 15th of August and ends on the 31th of October and 15th of August -28th of February for the collared dove.
The best period for hunting the quails is from mid-August until the 15th of September.
To be successful, quail hunting is prepared by placing callers a few days in advance in the area where the hunt is to take place. Following the pointing dog, the first rays of the sun greet the hunters, ready for the spectacular shooting of the small birds. Walking-up is a popular type of hunting for groups of 3-6 hunters. With a couple of friends and pointing dogs, it’s a good fun to hunt the meadows in the mornings and shoot doves in the afternoon in the sun-flower fields with nice results.
The quail hunt can be combined with the collared dove hunts. Collared dove shooting is also a very good target – practice for hunters.

Quail and Dove in Romania

The quail is a migratory bird species. Quails arrive in Romania in April, some staying and nesting here and start to leave in September. Being a plain bird, its habitat consists of forage crops, hayfields and cereal crops. After harvesting these, the quails stay in stubble as long as they are not plowed.
Collared dove: It is native to Asia and has successfully adapted to urban and rural environments, rarely straying far from their edges.
